Neurotoxin Removal Process

When a person becomes symptomatic in a mental health way, most commonly they are put on a psychiatric medication, or they self-medicate with recreational drugs. Many times this is the extent of the treatment. It is uncommon for any investigative effort to take place. We are finding more and more that people have accumulated toxins–neurotoxins, from their environment, and those toxins are interfering with the chemical processes necessary for mental health.

Some of these toxins are heavy metals and include mercury, arsenic, lead, aluminum, cadmium and other toxic metals. Most toxins are organic. We have been born into a toxic world, and in fact, very little of our world is not toxic. Our air, the food we have most available to us and additives to that food and pesticides, household cleaners, flame retardants in our beds, furniture and clothes, our hygiene products, parasites, bacteria and molds, all have a toxic chemical burden our body has to deal with. Those with poor genetic cleansing systems are impacted first, and brain chemistry being the most sensitive to chemical toxicity. Toxic load interferes with the way that neurotransmitters are synthesized.

Neurotransmitters are our chemical expressions of emotion, and therefore their disruption can manifest as a wide array of mental health issues including depression, psychosis, anxiety, addictive behaviors and even chronic pain. Each toxin has its own hold on the body, and need be treated in a specific way. We facilitate chemical and heavy metal toxin removal based upon toxicity testing and treat in customized chelation and targeted neurotoxin removal protocols. Chelation agents are proteins that can bind heavy metals.

Neurochemical Removal Process

The process involves the following, which will be explained in detail:

Health Exam

Toxicity and other Lab testing

Protectants to ensure safe toxin removal

Chelators which are proteins to remove heavy metals

Conjugators which are various nutrients that facilitate removal of organic toxins

Remineralization- Most persons who are heavy metal toxic are also found to be mineral deficient, specifically trace minerals. Persons who are low on minerals will not be able to push out heavy metal toxins, therefore mineralization is highly necessary.

Adjunctive therapies- These therapies aid in an overall cleansing and wellness program and include ionic footbaths, sauna, massage, acupuncture, nebulized glutathione, exercise, colon hydrotherapy, and other treatments.

This program was designed for persons who have accumulated toxins and to specifically remove those toxins. It was taken into consideration that many persons participating in this program will be on medications for the symptoms they have been having. In most cases, the need for the medications will be reduced as a person progresses.

Before Program Begins-

The participant will visit the collaborating doctor to have the following:

Health Exam – The participant will be given a physical to determine health and appropriate level of participation.

Lab Tests- The participant will have labs drawn. The labs include a CBC with Differential, Comprehensive Metabolic, a Urine Toxic Elements profile, and a Urine Essential Mineral Test.

(More about the lab testing can be seen here).

During the program-

The program last approximately two hours and will involve some, or all of the following:

exercising Exercise – At the capillary level, the cellular level, where much of this cleansing is to occur, an increase in blood pressure is needed to force new blood and oxygenation into these areas as well as to force out the toxins. It is estimated that at a minimum, 12 minutes of doubled heart rate is necessary to process the toxins of a NORMAL days metabolism. With the added burden of removing a lifetime of accumulated toxins, the minimum cardiovascular and doubling of the heart rate time is 20 minutes. This may of course need to be adjusted based upon the relative health of the participant.
Water – This process will liberate stored toxins, and water consumption is important to flush the toxins out of the system. Without proper water intake, the toxins will sit in the system where they can do damage, particularity to the glomerulus capillary network areas of the kidney which are the urinary filtration areas. Toxins liberated from fat storage areas and made water soluble must have the increased fluid intake to push them out of the body with the sweating. We use the Nikken water filtration system that not only filters the water, but mineralizes and ionizes it as well. The minimum requirement is 64 ounces for even the smallest adult. nikken water tower

Protectants

Chlorella- Chlorella is toxic binding to all known toxic metals and many environmental toxins. It is anti-viral. It is more effective at binding metals than any natural product known. It will not absorb from the gut into the bloodstream. This means that neuro-toxins that are dumped into the gut from the other chelators that do cross membranes such as cilantro and DMPS will be captured by the chlorella and safely exported via defecation. This binding is critical as without it, the toxins would likely be reabsorbed into the ENS (enteric nervous system). The ENS is a nerve plexus surrounding the intestines, and is highly prone to absorbing neurotoxins. The toxin, bound to chlorella cannot leave the gut, and this is the main reason for chlorella in the protocol.

t is given first so that it is in the gut when the other chelators start pulling toxins from the tissues. Chlorella is a single-celled algae that scientists postulate may be among the Earth’s oldest living organisms. In the 1960’s, Japanese scientists began to study chlorella for it’s health properties. We have now come to know chlorella well as a cleanser, immune stimulator, and as an excellent source of cellular nutrition. The Chlorella produced by Mountain Rose Herbs has a cracked cell wall by a cryogenic jet-spray process that pulverizes the algae wall and allows for it to be digestible. It is grown organically in Japanese ponds free of exposure to industrial chemicals.

garlic protection against mercury toxicityBioPure Freeze Dried Garlic

“ Garlic protects white and red blood cells from the oxidative damage caused by metals traveling in the blood. Garlic also contains numerous Sulfur compounds which will oxidize Mercury, Cadmium and Lead making them water soluble. Garlic also contains bioactive Selenium, which has anti-viral properties and is the most important mineral for protection against Mercury Toxicity. Garlic also contains allicin which is nature’s most powerful anti-microbial.

The medicinal properties of fresh garlic have been known for centuries and it has been the mainstay anti-microbial of numerous civilizations through the ages. The problem that has arisen in presenting garlic as a supplement is the inherent instability of the initial active substance, allicin, which is created when a clove of garlic is crushed. Allicin is not found, as such, within the garlic clove. Instead, when the clove is crushed, allicin is formed instantaneously from the interaction on an enzyme called alliinase on a precursor of allicin called alliin.

“By selecting the highest quality garlic cloves, rich in alliin and alliinase, and then gently freeze-drying them, a concentrate powder is produced which only releases the prime active allicin component when ingested and re-hydrated, i.e. all the allicin is released within the gastrointestinal tract. This is how BioPure is able to make the highest possible potency garlic available as a concentrate with all of the active components intact.” Text taken from BioPure Website

Vitamin C: Primary Water-Soluble Antioxidant

Vitamin C is the most important water-soluble antioxidant nutrient and is involved in a wide variety of biochemical reactions throughout the body. Because of its molecular structure, vitamin C is able to donate hydrogen atoms from two hydroxyl positions to neutralize free radicals. The body uses vitamin C during cleansing and anti-inflammatory processes, as well as immune system functions, including white blood cell production, histamine release and degradation, the reduction of glutathione, and the metabolism and protection of several other nutrients. In combination with other nutrients, vitamin C also supports the production of certain neurotransmitters.

Coconut Oil-

Coconut oil is good for the immune system. It strengthens the immune system as it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. It helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia.

Chelators

DMPS- (2,3-dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid)

dmps chelation protein By prescription only. This is a chelative protein that will bind most metals, and is particularly effective at binding mercury. It will cross the gut lining as well as fatty tissues, and will therefore pull mercury from individual cells as well. It will not cross the blood brain barrier, and therefore will not directly remove mercury or other metals from the brain. This also means that it will not pull metals from the tissues and drive them into the brain, making it a safe first wave approach to clearing heavy metal toxins safely from body tissues. DMPS is specific for metals, and is not known to clear organic toxins.

NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine)

NAC can be produced in humans from the amino acid cysteine. NAC is a sulfur-containing amino acid derivative found naturally in foods and is a powerful antioxidant. These dual properties help repair oxidative damage in the body. Being a powerful anti-oxidant and cell cleansing co-factor; NAC works to eliminate your body of free radicals and heavy metals.

N-Acetyl-Cysteine is currently the dietary supplement of choice for building up cysteine or conserving the body’s store of Glutathione, Cysteine and other Sulfhydryl anti-oxidant resources. This is very crucial for the body’s life functions, as NAC helps the body neutralize toxins, heavy metals, such as mercury from dental amalgam fillings, cadmium and lead from paint and cigarette smoke. The Sulfhydryl balance has also been linked to enhance resistance to viral infections. mercury-amalgam-dental-fillings

NAC is a chelator of heavy metals. In other words, NAC binds to toxic heavy metals such as mercury and lead, and removes them from the body. NAC will remove many toxic heavy metals from the body. Toxic metals can accumulate in the body over time from many sources such as drinking water and possibly even from tooth fillings made of silver-mercury amalgam. These heavy metals catalyze free-radical reactions. In other words, they initiate free-radical reactions without being used up during the reaction. So these heavy metals continue to cause free radical damage as long as they are present in the body. NAC has been shown to antidote acetaminophen (Tylenol) poisoning, mercury poisoning, and even arsenic poisoning. Mercury is especially important because of the increasing evidence linking mercury amalgam dental fillings with the onset of degenerative diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis. NAC chelates, i.e. “grabs” heavy metals and removes them from the body. NAC has been shown to be a protective agent in many diseases and conditions in which free radicals play a role. This includes cancer, AIDS, cirrhosis, as well as pollution damage from smoking or other chemicals. Rats given NAC were completely protected against cigarette smoke caused DNA cross-linking. Cancer research has shown that NAC dramatically reduces the ability of a tumor to invade surrounding tissue. In one study, NAC decreased the number of metastases by 80% when cancer cells were pretreated with NAC. NAC can be used for colon cancer prevention.

CaEDTA-

Ethylene-Diamine-Tetra-Acetic Acid. CaEDTA is used as a chelating agent in the treatment of lead poisoning, and CaEDTA also binds cadmium. It also Chelates, Zinc, and it’s use requires re-supplementation with Zinc several hours after administration.

Malic Acid-

Malic acid is helpful in protecting against the toxic effects of aluminum. Aluminum has a high affinity for phosphate groups and therefore aluminum can block the utilization of phosphate for ATP (energy) synthesis in the Kreb’s cycle. Malic acid is one of the most potent chelators of aluminum and was the most effective of several chelators tested at reducing aluminum levels in the brain. Also, it is useful in treating chronic fatigue as it improves energy metabolism by freeing up the phosphates to be used in ATP production.

biopure cilantro used for mobilizing lead aluminum nickel mercury and cadmium BioPure Cilantro Tinticure-

This kitchen herb is capable of mobilizing lead, aluminum, nickel, mercury, and cadmium is the central nervous system and in the bones. It is probably the only effective agent in mobilizing mercury stored in the intracellular space (attached to mitochondria, tubulin, liposomes etc.) and in the nucleus of the cell (reversing DNA damage of mercury).”-Dietrich Klinghardt Eliminating Neurotoxins Townsend Letter Oct 2009

Cilantro does cross the blood brain barrier, and is used in stage 2 for that reason. Since Cilantro can mobilize toxins in cells, and mobilize more toxins than it can carry out of the body, it needs to be combined with Chlorella to prevent re-toxification. It is important to give the Chlorella prior to the Cilantro so as to line the gut with large molecule Chlorella chelators which will bind the toxins liberated by the Cilantro. Cilantro has demonstrated a more rapid removal of aluminum and lead from the skeleton than any other known heavy metal detoxification agent.

Conjugators

Sam-E S-Adenosyl methionine is a common co-substrate involved in methyl group transfers. The methyl group (CH3) attached to the methionine sulfur atom in SAM is chemically reactive. This allows donation of this group to an acceptor substrate in transmethylation reactions. Transmethylation is an important step in converting a reactive toxin into a harmless water soluble substance that the body can then easily eliminate. Blister packs keep the product safe from degradation, which is a particular issue with Sam-E

methyltransfer

Three-dimensional picture of Methyl Transfer

total amino solution Total Amino Solution

This product contains all the precursors necessary to synthesize neurotransmitters. It is promoted by Julia Ross, author of the Mood Cure Diet. Neurochemistry is dramatically impacted by the presence of toxins, and this formula is designed to help repair that damage.

Methylfolate and B12- 5-methytetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) is the active, methylated form of folate, an essential B-vitamin. 5-MTHF requires no additional metabolic steps to be used by the body, thus it is often the preferred choice for this with absorption or metabolic defects. Methylfolate efficiently supports methylation, DNA biosynthesis, homocysteine metabolism, and nervous system function. Methylation is one key types of conjugation, making methylation support critical in organic toxic removal.

Re-mineralization-

As chelators such as EDTA and DMPS can remove good minerals, the good minerals need to be replaced, and the re-mineralization needs to occur after the active period for the chelators. Adding minerals at the same time as the chelating agents would dilute the effectiveness of the chelators, hence, they are given 2 hours after the primary chelators.

Seleno- Methionine-

Selenium bound to Methionine. During digestion, the Methionine will split off of the Selenium. This not only makes the Selenium Bio-available, but the Methionine itself contributes to the Methylation aspect of body purification. Good minerals will compete with toxic ones, and the good minerals can replace toxic ones at the sites where there are bound within the neurology. Selenium is one of the good minerals, and the most important mineral to protect against Mercury toxicity. There is some question still about the bio-availability of the Selenium in Selenomethione, and hence the added reasoning for the freeze-dried garlic, a highly bio-available form of Selenium.

Zinc Liver Chelate – Zinc is lost when a person is metal toxic, and when the body is under any form of stress, especially infections. Infections are common with toxicity. Zinc is also chelated out by this process and need to be replaced. zinc
BioPure Matrix Minerals Fulvic Acid has been called one of the most important natural miracles related to life itself. It is an acid created in extremely small amounts by millions of beneficial microbes working on decaying plant matter.

Because of fulvic acid’s low molecular weight (small molecules) it has the ability to readily dissolve and bond minerals and nutritional elements into its molecular structure. Nutrients that have been chelated by fulvic acid are in an ideal natural form to interact with and be absorbed by living cells. Fulvic Acid is so powerful that one single fulvic acid molecule is capable of carrying 60 or more minerals and trace elements into the cells.

Ambaya Gold’s liquid Ionic Mineral formula provides essential nutrients to re-mineralize and recharge your body and mind after the sweating a chelative process which tends to draw out minerals. Minerals hold the electrical ground and conductivity of the body and displace toxic metals- this easy to use formula is a great way to supply essential minerals and other key ingredients required to stay strong, vital, and connected.

Adjunctive Therapies

Nebulized Glutathione

nebulized-glutathioneIt has been called the master antioxidant. It is an intracellular antioxidant essential for maximum antioxidant activity from all other antioxidants, including vitamin C, vitamin E, and CoQ10. It removes toxins from cells, and protects against radiation. It is the body`s intracellular function to produce glutathione in the liver from three amino acids, cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine. We nebulize (vaporize) the glutathione so as to get it directly into the bloodstream without having to use IV’s, thereby eliminating the need to use needles

Massage-

MassageMany are now realizing the important health benefits of massage therapy. Massage therapy is not just a session for relaxation; it can also aid your body in cleansing processes. Massage can help your body get rid of dietary toxins.

Purifying massage can greatly support any cleansing program you are in. The key behind cleansing massage is movement. Your massage therapist employs a series of rhythmic movements that stimulate your body. The massage movements include irregular and altering applications of pressure that gently compress and stretch your muscle tissues.

There is a number of purifying massage therapies that you can undergo. One example is the lymphatic massage. The lymphatic system is one of the main elimination systems of the body that is integral in the body detoxification process. It is responsible for the absorption of food nutrients and it also creates a waste disposal system in your body. With the series of strokes, massage aids your lymphatic system to clear dietary toxins and other unwanted substances. These body toxins are actually by-products of stress, dead cells, heavy metals and other excess debris from your cells.

You can also enhance your immune system, strengthen the muscles and toughen your connective tissue. The massage therapy session can remove blockages of the circulatory system. In addition, this kind of massage can also help prevent health conditions including fatigue, headaches, fibromyalgia, and other system dysfunctions that result from the presence of toxins in your body.

Some people also attest that massage therapy can help them in keeping their mental status at a normal level. If your muscles are relaxed, then your body is likely to release toxins more freely. Massage normalizes oxygen levels and improves the function of your colon drainage and other organs involved in the process of body detoxification.

Colon Hydrotherapy

Colon HydrotherapyWhen toxins are being pulled from the system, they often deposit themselves the colon. These are the same toxins that destroy brain chemistry and that altered brain chemistry then results in cravings and drug addictions. We are using these colon purging techniques to ensure that the toxins are non-reabsorbed while hanging around in the gut.

Colonics also remove mucous that block absorption of vital nutrition. When a person is not getting adequate nutrition, the first thing that is usually sacrificed is neurochemistry, and therefore anxiety, depression, lack of passion, opiate and drug use can result as these states are all heavily influenced by neurotransmitters. So even before tissue changes and organ dysfunction, lack of proper nutrients most often results in mood disturbances. Colonics help the person absorb what they need in order to create balance. There have been many documented cases at our center where the gut was the primary cause of mental issues. Toxin producing parasites, a very common issue, can also be addressed with these techniques.

The colon therapist, called a hydrotherapist will use fill and release water, as well as light massage techniques permitted by the client; to dislodge toxic waste matter adhered to the walls of the colon. The dislodged fecal impactions are then gently washed away though the system’s waste disposal tube.

During the therapy, water temperature and pressure will be monitored by the colon therapist and can be varied to stimulate peristalsis (muscular contraction) in the colon. This is very important to help the sluggish colon.
Each colon hydrotherapy session lasts approximately 45 minutes and one should allow at least one hour per office visit.

Initially, a series of at least three separate therapy sessions may be recommended, to achieve the maximum cleansing benefit. This helps to eliminate fecal matter which may have been lodged in the colon for weeks, months, or even years, and to keep the client properly hydrated.

Using a combination of abdominal massage (if consented), reflexology, breathing instruction and relaxation techniques — the colon therapist is often able to promote elimination of a volume of toxic waste, which would not otherwise be possible through individual efforts.

Just one colon hydrotherapy session may be equivalent to having 20 or 30 regular bowel movements. Eliminations during subsequent therapy sessions can be even more substantial as older, hardened, impacted feces are dislodged from the colon walls.

The colon hydrotherapist will carefully evaluate the client’s progress during their session to determine if additional sessions would be beneficial. After a therapy session, many people report a feeling of heightened energy, an increased sense of well-being and renewed vitality.

Certainly your colon will be cleaner… you may experience easier eliminations and your overall health status should be improved.

Colonic irrigation using colon hydrotherapy provides a proven way to cleanse your colon, and thereby to increase your chances of maintaining optimal health.

Cleansing

Cleansing the body is a process of neutralizing toxins in our system particularly in the lymph nodes and liver and then eliminating them through our lungs, colon, skin, and kidneys. This process is vital to our system as is nutrient intake, and it is a process that our system engages in as consistently as our heartbeat. Without these systems working properly, the toxins would then embed themselves in our tissues and trigger a host of degenerative diseases and inflammatory conditions which could include mental symptomatology such as anxiety and psychosis. When overloaded and if the body cannot neutralize and eliminate a toxin, it will sequester it away in fatty tissues including glandular, nerve, and brain tissue. In an effort to protect us from dangerous poisons; the body can accumulate mucous and fat to deposit these toxins in.

The scale of toxins we are currently exposed to put an unreasonable demand on our physiology. Industrial chemicals and the water treatment process pollute the water we bathe in and often drink. Pesticides designed to poison insects are accumulating in our bodies, the concentration of mercury permeates the food chain along with other heavy metals, your household cleaners, solvents, the declination of our air quality, your hygiene products, and our environmental hormones all put an undue burden on our system, inevitably resulting in the breakdown of our natural body systems. Energy metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, addictive biochemistry, the disruption of normal hormonal production, interference of DNA and tissue repair, and other delicate biochemical systems are additionally adversely affected. The World Health Organization research has implicated environmental chemicals in 60-80% of all cancers today. We have seen this toxic load as correlatively and directly responsible for mental issues including psychosis, anxiety, hormonal disruption, addictive disorders, and underlying allergic and chemical sensitivities.

Our immune system serves the purpose of protecting us from infection. It does so by making a distinction between the self (the body) and the non-self (a foreign invader). When it detects an invader, such as a pathogen, it will identify it closely. It will then send out the equivalent of a wanted poster to all the white blood cells, informing them of the invader. When the white blood cells come in contact with the pathogen, they set off an inflammatory process and begin the attack of the pathogen.

The immune system is being asked to distinguish self from non-self when it comes to toxin laden tissue. Often, the immune system mistakes this toxic tissue with “foreign invaders” and then proceeds to attack it. This is a likely mechanism for some cases of auto-immune issues such as Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, Graves’ disease, Psoriatic Arthritis, and a host of others. The immune system attacks tissues that are toxic without realizing the “attack” is on itself.

Signs of toxicity i

  • Frequent unexplained headaches
  • Chronic respiratory problems, sinus problems or asthma
  • Abnormal body odor, bad breath or coated tongue
  • Environmental sensitivities, sensitivity to odors
  • Food allergies, poor digestion, constipation, intestinal bloating and gas
  • Unusually poor memory, chronic insomnia, depression, chronic fatigue
  • Brittle hair and nails, psoriasis, adult acne, unexplained weight gain

As different toxins debilitate different systems, different symptoms may present.

We commonly see Mercury toxicity create insomnia and anxiety. Arsenic toxicity has been known to contribute to pain killer abuse due to its effects on endorphin synthesis, and Mercury-Lead or Mercury-Aluminum combinations have been demonstrated in psychosis as they bind to neuronal receptor sites generally reserved for neurotransmitters and require chelation to restore normative functionality.

Additional signs of Heavy Metal and Pollution Toxicity ii

  • Sensitivity to perfumes and cleaning products
  • Low tolerance to alcohol
  • Sensitivity to medications
  • Sensitivity to certain supplements
  • Usually bad breath and body odor
  • Slow reaction time for your age
  • Infertility, Impotency
  • Memory failure, psychotic behavior, unexplained seizures

Removal Process

To remove these toxins, specific techniques need to be employed. Heavy metal toxins and many environmental toxins are neurotoxic and lipophillic. Neurotoxic means that they have a high affinity for and are destructive to nerve tissue. Lipophillic means love of fat, and therefore aggregates in fatty tissue such as endocrine glands, brain tissue and adipose tissue. These toxins are termed fat-soluble. In order to remove them, they must be addressed in specific ways:

Chelation- Chelation means “claw like.” This, put simply, is a protein that has a higher affinity for the heavy metal than does the fatty tissue, and as a molecule, will grab the toxin like a claw. A protein chelate, such as DMPS, binds the heavy metal toxin, and allows it to be escorted out of the body via the elimination pathways. Chelators are specific for metals only, and other methods much be employed in conjunction to address organic toxins.

Conjugation- Conjugation means “with joining.” For non-metal organic toxins, this is the method of elimination. In order for these fat soluble toxins to be eliminated via sweat, defecation and via urinary routes, they must be converted to a water soluble form. This is done by adding something to the toxin such as a sulfur group, methyl group, acetyl group and others. This adding is chemically termed conjoining. The specific elements in our heavy metal and holistic detoxification processes take full advantage of this process so that the toxins can be liberated from the fatty tissue, and safely eliminated.

To facilitate removal of these toxins, ionic footbaths, colonics, sauna, mineral baths, and massage are used at the treatment center.

Biochemical Cycles demonstrating toxic effects on Metabolism

The following was captured from the Genova Nutreval test

how carbohydrates react with heavy metal toxins

CoFactors are substances that support a particular biochemical processes in the body.

Toxins are substances that inhibit certain biochemical processes in the body

Above is a small portion of a biochemical cycle involving carbohydrate metabolism. In order for Pyruvic Acid to convert into Acetyl CoA, you need the CoFactors listed in the green dot. As long as you have Magnesium (Mg), B1, B2, B3 and Lipoate, you should be able to manufacture Acetyl CoA. Toxins however invalidate this conversion process. The pinkish dot and the red line with the arrow though it represents things that inhibit the conversion from taking place. As, Hg, and Sb represent Arsenic, Mercury and Antimony. Presence of those toxins will likely inhibit this step regardless of ample CoFacors. The presence of toxins debilitates person’s ability to be able to make use of the nutrients they are consuming.

Acetyl CoA is a main factor in cellular respiration known as the Krebs Cycle, which produces energy for the cell. Acetyl CoA is also needed to convert Serotonin to Melatonin as seen below. Toxic inhibition of this process may result in insomnia, and the addition of dietary Melatonin would be ineffective as this conversion needs to take place within the brain, and Melatonin will not cross from the gut and blood to the brain.

The following was taken from the Genova Nutreval Test [Mercury inhibition added]

heavy metal toxic effects on serotonin with mercury inhibition added

Mercury (Hg) is particularly toxic. It toxifies one of the main elimination mediums, namely methlyation. In order to cleanse the body of a fat soluble toxin, a CH3 group called a methyl group needs to be conjoined to the toxin. Mercury disables this process. Now, not only can the body not clear the Mercury, but becomes ineffective as clearing other toxins as well. So the Lead, Cadmium, Organic Phosphates and so on cannot be cleared. Mercury is also a factor is the above as Mercury will interfere with the adenylation of Methionine which creates endogenous Sam-E, another factor important in the conversion of Serotonin to Melatonin.

Sam-E also is needed in the conversion of Norepinephrine to Epinephrine as shown in the next cycle below. Build up of Norepinephrine results anxious states, and a relatively constant unwavering type of anxiety is a typical presentation of Mercury toxicity.

I don’t feel comfortable using a substance designated by the Environmental Protection Agency to be a waste disposal hazard. I can’t throw it in the trash, bury it in the ground, or put it in a landfill, but they say it is OK to put it in people’s mouths. That doesn’t make sense.” – Richard. Fischer, D.D.S.
