Methadone Detox

Methadone withdrawal

Methadone Detox

The difficultly in withdrawing from Methadone is Methadone’s ability to remain in the body for longer than most Opiates. This then can produce withdrawals that last for 5 days to sometimes weeks. So tapering off of Methadone is one of the most painful of all withdrawals, even when using IV nutrients.

Some rehab centers try to convert to Suboxone, and then taper off the Suboxone. This is a great tool for some Opiates, but not from Methadone.Converting to Suboxone is difficult as a requirement of Suboxone is that the person is in withdrawal before the Suboxone is administered. For the person on Methadone, this can last 3-5 days.

Who wants to be in withdrawal for 3-5 days before they get relief? Even worse, if you add the Suboxone too early, the person gets REALLY sick, since the Suboxone will kick the Methadone off of the Opiate receptors and therefore can potentially throw a person into full withdrawal.

So what is the pain free trick for Methadone withdrawal?

Only Alternative to Meds has this one mastered.

First, you pre-load with Endorphin building nutrients. This gives your body ample supply of its own natural pain killers. It is low Endorphins that causes a person to feel pain during withdrawal. Second, the Methadone is converted to a rapid opiate agonist for two days. This allows the Methadone to leave the body. Then the person is converted to Suboxone. The person is then tapered off the Suboxone. The pain of withdrawal is eliminated. This process takes up to 10 days.

What about the depression and other anxieties I get after withdrawal?

Endorphins reduce not only physical pain, but emotional pain as well. Our emotional brain (limbic) is designed to read the emotions of another being, as is any mammals brain. It is a function of any mammal to read emotions.

As humans, we have a highly developed limbic (emotional) brain. The primary neurotransmitter of our emotional brain is endorphins. Endorphins block the natural ability for us to read another’s emotions. They block our ability to over-feel another’s sadness, pain, anger, fear, joy, and so on. So a person with low Endorphins is generally a sensitive and loving person, however since they “feel” others intensely, it often leads to cravings for substances that block emotional pain. Raising Endorphin’s naturally can give a person enough stability to exercise their sensitivity gifts in a lasting way.

PTSD

Exposure to threats for a sustained period of time deletes Endorphins. This has the benefit of allowing the person to more aptly perceive threat, as they can read another’s motives more acutely. However this depletion leads to perceiving threats where there are none, and the over sensitivity that comes with low endorphins. PTSD has been successfully treated by raising Endorphin levels.

We want to empower our clients with lasting ways to address their own health, and maintain their own balance. Other centers that put a person on IV’s and then see them out the door have pretty much guaranteed themselves a return customer. We want our graduates to be self health care certified, and to know the science of what we do, so they can do it for themselves.
